The Brief:

As part of an overall corporate communications strategy, in 2001 the company required a website that would both reflect the whole range of their products and services and also re-brand the three acquired companies which had now become the business units.

Saint-Gobain Pipelines is a leading supplier of ductile iron pipes, fittings, valves, manhole covers, gullies and grates as well as being the leading producer of cast iron above and below ground drainage systems. The company is divided into three specialist business units: Water & Sewer, Access, Covers & Gratings and Soil & Drain, operating from six sites in the UK.

Solution: Working within strict corporate guidelines, Netstep developed a single site incorporating a complex yet at the same time highly intuitive navigation system. The design reflected the core brand values of the company whilst still giving each business unit its own distinct identity. Netstep worked closely with SGP, co-ordinating the development of the site with each of the business unit’s marketing managers as well as the company’s direct mail and PR agencies.

The site was designed and developed within two months, on time, and within budget.

The site itself has over 450 pages and includes corporate information, details of all products and services, online Press Centre, and a comprehensive library section, incorporating catalogues, technical data sheets and CAD drawings.

Customer communication is enhanced via a registration process which allows visitors to view the Soil & Drain online catalogue, download datasheets and subscribe to online newsletters and product bulletins.

In its first year the site gained over 5,500 registered users and regularly gets over 10,000 visitor sessions per month.
